 Full Day Cooking Experience - £155 Weekdays...
Sitting around the dining table drinking coffee at The Cooking Experience in Suffolk while Mark made the introductions and talked us through the dishes we would be cooking it was hard to believe we could ever cook all the dishes in our course notes. As it turned out we did, along with a couple of extras Mark ad-libbed along the way.
We'd booked the "Seafood Extravaganza" but we still started off sharpening our knives on the high street kerb outside (the locals are used to this ritual by now) before making the best Prawn Toast I've ever tasted.
With Mark gently steering us in the right direction it seemed effortless and before long we'd created Oriental Salmon Fishcakes, Goujons of Cod with the most delicate sweet and sour sauce and a selection of different breads, all made from the same basic dough recipe. I've even made the Rosemany Focaccia bread at home from the simple course notes and the tips for handling onions, garlic, chilli pepper and many others are priceless.
Tasting and talking about food is part of the experience and it was such lovely weather we sat out on the patio with a glass of wine and got to know each other a little better and sampled the food we'd cooked. After half an hour or so we headed back to the kitchen to rustle up Smoked Haddock Gratinée, Baked Cod Fillet with Herb Crust, A Parcel of Fish with Hollandaise Sauce and a Pecan and Black Treacle Tart.
While we were cooking these Mark was live on Radio Suffolk talking listeners through the Oriental Fishcakes we'd cooked earlier and we were all invited to make plenty of noise to help create the right ambiance - great fun!
At the end of the afternoon we once again retired to the patio and enjoyed eating all the food we'd cooked together before saying our goodbyes and heading off home to share our experience with friends and families - who were more impressed with my doggie bag of Oriental Fishcakes and bread than my certificate.
I've been back several times since and can throughly recommend the courses.
