Mailwasher works independently from your favourite email client (Outlook Express, Thunderbird etc.) to filter out unwanted emails before they ever reach your PC. Mailwasher does this by logging into all your mailboxes and displaying a preview of all your email in a window without downloading the email to your machine so there's absolutely no way of getting an email virus at this stage. Mailwasher then runs its built-in virus checker (which picked up and deleted all the Happy New Year viruses) and (optionally) checks the email sender against popular online spam databases to see if it originates from known spam source and flags it as potential spam or deletes it according to your settings. Once viruses and obvious spam have been removed from your mailboxes (that accounts for well over 95% of the emails in my accounts) what's left is checked against your personal friends and blacklists to flag up any remaining unwanted emails. Mailwasher learns as you make your preferences and in just a few days becomes amazingly accurate. Everything takes place automatically (but under your control) and in a matter of seconds you're left with clean email in all your mailboxes ready for you to download using the Send/Receive cycle as normal in your favourite email client which is much faster and offers a double-check for viruses using your normail anti-virus software.
