CantBarsed Movie Reviews - American Beauty Movie Review...

I generally avoid watching films which are showered with accolades, at least until the hype dies down. However, as a forty something with children myself I found it easy to indentify with the main character, Lester Burnham, played by Kevin Spacey, so I couldn't wait any longer to watch American Beauty on DVD shortly after its release...

CantBarsed Movie Reviews - Crouching Tiger Movie Review

I hadn't read the hype, wasn't aware it had won 4 Oscars, and I watched it on a rainy summer afternoon with my family. Frankly I wasn't expecting much, I was wrong.
It's been thirty years since I enjoyed watching David Carradine play Kwai Chang Caine, a Shaolin Monk wandering American west armed only with his skill in Kung Fu, back in early 70's and I've been too busy ever since...

Welcome to the Jungle - Movie review by Eilis Carr
This film stars "The Rock"' (The peoples champ) and Sean William Scott (Stiffler in American Pie) and is set mainly in El Dorado where a rich and evil Gold Smith rules the town and all of its inhabitants except for a group of fighting rebels led by an attractive woman. Beck (The Rock) is a specialist retrieval man who has to travel to El Dorado to retrieve a powerful mans son called Travis (Sean William Scott) who is over there looking for hidden treasure. It all sounds easy enough but the dilema is that Travis has promised the goldsmith and the rebels a share in the treasure.
Travis has himself in a real mess and Beck has to sort it all out before he can leave with Travis. In the end the Rebels, Beck and Travis all join forces to help drive the goldsmith and his accomplices out of town.
As expected with the Rock starring there's lots of fighting and melodramitic ass kicking but all in all it's quite an entertaining film.
The Terminal - Movie Review by Robin Natasha Cowles
Normally comedies dont really appeal to me as they aren't actually that funny. However, The Terminal is a welcome breath of fresh air because it isn't trying too hard to be funny. Hank's subtle accent and ridiculous grasp of the English/American language means that it's a barrel of laughs. The airport chief executive provides comedy in trying to educate Victor as does Catherine Zeta Jones with her loose virtues. All actors in this film are fresh and even Catherine redeems herself from past projects.
Men in Black 2 - Movie Review by Ms F Lee
Agent Jay (Will Smith) has to bring back Agent Kay (Tommy Lee Jones), who is retired and has been neutralised, to help with a vital mission that only he has knowledge about. There were some funny moments although it wasn't as good as the original Men in Black movie and the plot really lets it down at the end. It's light entertainment but a bit daft and I would give it a score of 3/5.
Open Water - Movie Review by Ben Latham
Why do we go to movies? To be captivated, drawn in, motivated, inspired and mainly ENTERTAINED. But as time has passed, cinema has slowly let docufilms such as Michael Moore's work (which I admire) and films showing 'real-life' occurences such as Open Water.
It was my girlfriends birthday the day I saw the film, we were with a group of around 10 friends and had planned to go to our local cinema before finishing the day at a local restaurant. We had all heard very good reviews from respectable British film critics such as Paul Ross. Words such as 'captivating', 'horryfying' and 'remarkable' were used to describe the film but not one of our group of ten could agree. In fact it was unanimously chosen as the crappiest, most boring film we had ever seen.
The words used by the critics I agree could have been used to the idea of the events actually happening but not for the film itself. An account of such a story should have been kept for books and magazines, not films. I hope to see less of such films in the future and for cinemas to be there to entertain, not just inform.
Elektra - Movie Review by Samantha Cresswell
As I walked into the cinema I already had high expectations for this film and it did not dissapoint.
The graphics were outstanding and the fight scences kept you on your toes. The conflict of emotion within elektra is easy for anybody to relate in making it easy to connect to her. I don't wish to give too much away as I hope you will go to see it yourself.
I'm not saying it's the best film I've ever seen but it's definitely in my top 10 films to watch.
CantBarsed.com Comment: MTV's Surf Girls Reality TV Show
14 female surfers travel the world to compete for a highly coveted wildcard entry into the surfing World Championship Tour and a shot at a pro surfing career. The girls looked great, the fashion, sponsored by Quiksilver's Roxy brand looked great, but the girls barely had time to synchronise their monthly cycles before the bitching and whining started. Chasing a dream but living in a reality tv show - it sucks.
