 Trackballs have been around for decades and from our personal experience anyone who has made the switch to a trackball never goes back to using a mouse. The flaw all mouse designs suffer from is the need for roaming room on your desktop and the need to keep cleaning both the roaming surface and mouse underbelly. Trackballs stay put and once you have become accustomed to using a trackball you'll be able to move the screen pointer at speed and with more precision than any mouse. We use the Kensington Expert Trackball (expensive at around £75) but the Kensington Orbit Optical Trackball (under £20) and Logitech Trackman Wheel (around £22) are both excellent and available from all the popular computer accessory stores.
