Notting Hill Movie Review - Buy Movies - Rent Movies

Despite the sinking feeling I get whenever I'm persuaded to watch a romantic comedy (AKA "girlie film") Notting Hill had me laughing out loud more than once which can only be seen as a "good thing".

Hugh Grant plays William Thacker, a travel bookshop owner, Julia Roberts plays Anna Scott and they fall in love when she walks into his shop and buys a book. Julia Roberts almost convinced me she could see a downside to being a Hollywood movie star but I found I had to suspend reality to get anything out of this formula romantic comedy. The supporting characters saved the day which helped the plot trundle along enjoyably and predictably towards a cringeworthy finale.

Notting Hill was directed by Roger Michell and written by Richard Curtis who also wrote Four Weddings and a Funeral and the connections are obvious. I wouldn't go out of my way to follow their future projects but I was pleased to get to the end of this two hour four minute film with the smile on my face still intact.

A lightweight, light-hearted and entertaining film - ideal for a romantic evening in with your partner.
