The Animatrix Movie Review - Buy Movies - Rent Movies
The Animatrix DVD is a collection of nine short films about the Matrix which each reveal more background to The Matrix story. The animations vary in length from 6 to 16 minutes. The DVD extras include interviews with the animators who talk animatedly about their work and animation in general including Cowboy Bebop, my current favourite anime. There's also an Enter the Matrix game trailer. Here's a rundown of the animations on the DVD: The Final Flight of the Osiris: Tells the story about what the Osiris did which was so important people lost their lives to get what the Osiris had. This one is a realistic animation like Final Fantasy, all computer generated. The Second Renaissance Parts 1 and 2: Tells the story of how the Matrix was first created. This is a clean cut animation with definite outlines. Kid's Story: A film about a kid who wanted to know the truth about reality. This was hand drawn style animation - almost pencil like. Program: About a program that a woman liked to play. An anime style animation - very Japanese like. World Record: About a person who discovered the Matrix in a different and unusual way. A drawn anime style animation where the people are drawn with noticeably different features, e.g. long thin necks. Beyond: This one - definitely my favourite - is about a girl who found a fault in the Matrix. This is also a clean cut animation with definite outlines. A Detective Story: Story about a detective who was hired to find a very special computer hacker. The animation is almost entirely black and white apart from the occasional flame. Matriculated: Set in the "real world" about how people fight robots. Inititally the animation reminded me of Disney, later it reminded me of Rugrats for good reason because the animator also made Rugrats. So if you like The Matrix and you want to learn more about the underlying story get yourself a copy pronto.
